ProtectAir products were developed in accordance with the standards of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the proprietary formula behind ProtectAir products ensures safe use. The disinfectant capabilities of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) are two and a half times more effective than those of chlorine (Cl). At the same time chlorine dioxide is an environmentally-friendly gas. It is classified by WHO as a substance in category A1, the same category in which salt and sugar are classified. In addition to the high efficiency of chlorine dioxide, it is a safe material to use (in accordance with the simple instructions for use of the product) by anyone and does not require special expertise or working conditions. In contrast, chlorine (Cl) is not an eco-friendly substance, it produces harmful biproducts during the disinfection process and may irritate the skin and eyes. Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is disinfected by oxidation, protein decomposition and other molecules only in microbe cells. Mammalian cells, such as humans and other complex animals, are not affected by chlorine dioxide unless they are exposed to very high levels. In mammals, the proteins found in the chlorine dioxide are deep within the cell and not in the cell walls and are therefore protected against the effect of the substance.
